Almost 10 million people took part in celebrations marking the 68th anniversary of Victory in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War on May 9. “Over 10,300 events, military parades, firework shows, and wreath-laying ceremonies took place in more than 5,000 cities and towns,” the Interior Ministry told ITAR-TASS. More than 164,000 policemen and 10,000 Interior Troops, over 9,000 volunteer people’s guards, almost 12,000 private security personnel and 4,700 Cossacks helped ensure law and order on VE Day across Russia. “No violations of public order were registered in Russian regions during the events marking the 68th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War,” the ministry said.
