Sweida - Sana
The archeological town of al-Gharieh, South of Sweida, was inhabited by man during the Middle and Modern Bronze Age between 2000 and 1200 BC. The town encompasses a number of archeological buildings representing various eras. Director of Sweida Antiquities Department Wasim al-Sha'arani said that the town includes several archeological buildings, among them the remnants of a Byzantine Church and Nabataean Temple, in addition to a number of statues and an altar decorated with Greek inscription. The excavation works in 2008 unearthed an archeological cemetery in the north-east of the town. The cemetery encompasses nine burial chambers which includes bones, skeletons and skulls in addition to treasures and findings dating back to the Byzantine and Romanian eras.
