Interim CEO of Sonatrach, Said Sahnoune said Sunday in Oran, Algeria plans to begin production of shale gas in 2022.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the International Conference on Gas industry in Algeria, the CEO of Sonatrach announced that "Algeria may start producing shale gas in 2022, if the drawn plan would be executed under the right conditions."
"By 2025, we could also achieve a production level of about 10 billion m3 of shale gas," the same official added.
At the opening session of the conference, the minister of Energy stated Sonatrach is "actively preparing" to use techniques to access hydrocarbons in compact geological formations as shale.
