HSBC takes $700 mn hit for money laundering fines

HSBC said Monday it took a provision of $700 million (571 million euros) to cover fines for failing to apply anti-money laundering rules but warned the overall cost could be "significantly higher." The bank also said that its six months to June net profit fell 8.0 percent from a year earlier to $8.44 billion.
