New York - UPI
Those who adopt new technology apparently still want to hang on to the gear the new equipment is suppose to replace, a Harris Poll released Thursday indicated. The poll indicated Android and iPhone ownership is up, but smartphones' replacing digital cameras remains in question. Ownership of both Android-powered smartphones at 26 percent and iPhones, at 22 percent, rose considerably since May 2012 when ownership was 18 percent and 17 percent, respectively. While there has been debate about whether smartphones have reached the point that they can replace digital cameras, the Harris Poll indicated smartphone owners were at least as likely as the national average to currently own a point-and-shoot digital camera. For now tablet owners appear reluctant to let go of their tech goodies as they add to their collection, Harris said. In fact, tablet owners are more likely than non-owners to also own all kinds of technological gadgetry, including items that could be replaced by tablets, results indicated. The Harris Poll surveyed online 2,345 adults April 10-15 as part of a quarterly "Tech Tracker." No margin of error was given.
