The US Consumer Electronics Association says ultra-high-definition displays, also known as 4K television sets, will be officially known as Ultra HD. The Ultra HD tag will apply to giant screens with more than eight million pixels of resolution, four times the resolution of today's widely available HDTVs, Home Media Magazine reported. The CEA's Board of Industry Leaders unanimously approved the term and said Ultra HD televisions and projectors must have 3,840 horizontal and 2,160 vertical pixels, with an aspect ratio of at least 16:9. "This new terminology and the recommended attributes will help consumers navigate the marketplace to find the TV that best meets their needs," DEA President Gary Shapiro said. "Ultra HD is the next natural step forward in display technologies, offering consumers an incredibly immersive viewing experience with outstanding new levels of picture quality," he said. LG Electronics and Sony Electronics are both debuting 84-inch Ultra HD sets this fall, with prices starting at around $20,00, Home Media Magazine said.
