A team from the US won gold in soccer 3D simulation, and a team from China won gold in rescue agent simulation Teams from the Islamic Republic made its citizens proud winning gold in the rest of the 19 categories. RoboCup competitions started in 1997 with the goal of promoting robotics and artificial intelligence. The only human interaction in the soccer matches are by the referees, while robots sweat it out on the field. The final international games with hundreds of participating teams from around the world will be held in Mexico this June. RoboCup Federation's ultimate goal is-by mid-21st century-to have a fully autonomous robotic team, complying with FIFA rules, face off against the winner of the most recent World Cup.
