New delhi - KUNA
India successfully test fired a "nuclear-capable, surface to surface missile" from a military base in the eastern state of Odisha, Defence sources said Monday. The missile, Prithvi-11, was test fired from Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, some 225 kilometers from odisha capital, Bhubaneswar at around 9 am, defence sources said. The source described the launch of the missile as part of an operational exercise by the strategic force command (SFC) of the defence services, adding, the test fire was successful. Sources said the Prithvi-11 missile was ingenuously developed in India and uses Advanced Inertial Guidance System with maneuvering trajectory to reach targets with reasonable accuracy. Prithvi-II missile has a strike range of nearly 350 km and is capable of carrying 500 kg-1000 kg of warheads, sources said. Adding, the warhead uses a radar correlation terminal guidance system. The Prithvi-II missile is developed by the Indian Defense Research Development Organization and has been inducted into the armed forces.
