The second International Power Nigeria Exhibition kicked off in the West African country's commercial city of Lagos on Wednesday. The three-day exhibition drew the participation of nearly 100 enterprises from Italy, China, France, Russia, Turkey, Germany amongst other countries, showcasing energy saving and environmentally friendly technologies and products. The exhibition aims to create favorable conditions for local businesses to access advanced technological solutions, publicize their hi-tech products and devices that save energy, and cleaner manufacturing technologies. Technologies and products on show include lighting systems; electrical and heating equipment, gas systems, home appliances, renewable and new energy; clean manufacturing technologies and environment technologies. Anita Mathews, director of organizers Informa Energy Group, told Xinhua that the exhibition tagged "Power Nigeria" is a platform for the local Nigerian energy industry to meet leading international and local suppliers and purchase products and services related to their regional requirement. She said the event covers all sectors of the energy industry including power generation, transmission, distribution and alternative energy. Workshops on energy saving solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises will also be organized in the sidelines of the exhibition, Mathews added. The exhibition attracted one of the largest industrial electric manufacturers in China, Sassin International Electric Co., Ltd. The west African country has one of Africa's lowest per capita power supplies, with half of the 160 million people off the grid. Daily blackouts force companies to rely on diesel-fired generators, pushing up business costs by up to 40 percent. The Nigerian government on Monday officially handed over share certificates and licenses to new core owners of 15 of the 18 power firms successor companies.
