Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam
Beirut - MENA

Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam discussed Saturday with visiting Arab Women Organization (AWO) Director-General Mervat Al Telawi ways to improve women conditions, in general, and the Lebanese women, in particular.

During the meeting, Telawi said the Lebanese women have suffered for a long time from armed disputes and violence in Lebanon, noting that any intended societal development would never be accomplished without women's participation on equal basis with men.

Arab women solidarity is a cornerstone of the long-hoped-for Arab solidarity, she added.

AWO aims to empower Arab women in all fields in order to play an effective role in the various society establishments and effectively take part in decision making, she affirmed, noting that the organization was working on involving women issues in comprehensive development plans and policies.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Public Works and Transportation Minister Ghazi Zeaiter received Telawi in his office and discussed with her Arab local and regional affairs.

Despite unprecedented harsh conditions in the Arab region, in general, and Lebanon, in particular, Lebanon was able to overcome obstacles and solve emerging issues, thanks to the support and solidarity of the Lebanese people themselves, she said.
