Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said on Friday the European Union would not sign an association agreement with Ukraine if the latter did not resolve the issue of politically motivated justice, including release of former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko. “This is the obligation. The agreement will not be signed without this,” she told her Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovich at the 10th Yalta Annual Meeting. “If you promise, you should fulfill your promises,” Grybauskaite said. “You fulfill these requirements not to please the European Union. You fulfill them for the Ukrainian people and for Ukraine’s future.” The Lithuanian leader expressed the hope that “the summit of Eastern Partnership in Vilnius will become a milestone for the European Union and Ukraine.”
