
A Chinese woman was sentenced to death Wednesday for starting a fire that killed three firefighters, court officials said. Li Lijuan, 49, set fire to a warehouse belonging to her former employer, Hangzhou Yusei Machinery Co. Ltd., Jan. 1. At the time, 193 workers were on duty and it took nearly 400 firefighters to control the blaze. Three of the firefighters died and three others were injured, Xinhua reported. The fire caused $9.76 million of damage. Li committed the crime after she was transferred to a different job within the company and was having conflicts with her colleagues, Xinhua said.
