Unknown armed men opened fire on a female police officer in former Taliban stronghold Kandahar province, Afghanistan, on Wednesday, killing her son and injuring the lady police, said a press release of the provincial government. "Two masked persons riding a motorbike opened fire on a lady police officer in Dand district of Kandahar province this morning, injuring her and killing her son," the press release said. "The tragic incident took place at 07:30 a.m. local time when the lady police officer along with her son was on the way to office," the press release added. The provincial government blamed the enemies of peace, a term used against Taliban militants by officials, for carrying out terror attacks in a bid to terrorize the people. However, the Taliban militants who often target government employees and oppose women to work outside home, have not yet make comment.
