Dubai - Arabstoday

An Emirati student of UAE University in Al Ain detected an anomaly in a programme that regulates the airflow into plane engines and convinced aviation major Airbus to replace it with a better one. Tasnim Al Rawi Al Naqbi, a mechanical engineering student at UAE University, recently completed a six-month intensive training programme at the headquarters of Airbus in Toulouse, France. Tasnim said that her training focused on the airflow into plane engines. She said that she identified a loophole in the German programme used by Airbus and suggested another one that takes more accurate and faster measurements. Tasnim said she told her supervisor about her opinion and he invited the German company to Toulouse for a discussion. She said that she met with a delegation from the company and they listened to her finding and agreed to replace the programme. Dr Abdullah Al Khanbashi, UAE University vice-chancellor, said that Tasnim was able to prove herself in her field of specialisation and her success confirmed that the College of Engineering’s programmes at the university were strong. He added that she had also highlighted the role of Emirati women. Al Khanbashi discussed Tasnim’s experiences during the course of her internship with her. Tasnim’s internship was part of a programme supported by the Abu Dhabi Education Council and Mubadala Aerospace. The training programme is currently in its second year and offers students a chance to get hands-on experience in the field of aerospace engineering. It also helps students develop their skills while working in competitive international environments that require high standards of efficiency. Tasnim thanked her university, Abu Dhabi Education Council and Mubadala Aerospace for allowing her the chance to take part in the programme. From / Gulf News
