Sharjah - Arabstoday
The Sharjah Archaeology Museum and Sharjah Science Museum hosted about 250 students from the 24th annual Police Friends Course, organised by the Sharjah Police General Directorate. This visit by students to Sharjah’s Archaeology and Science Museums is in line with the Sharjah Museums Department’s (SMD) strategy of maintaining active partnerships and cooperation with individuals and corporations both locally and internationally, with the aim of enhancing UAE nationals’ awareness of their history and culture. Speaking on the occasion, Lt Ahmed Al Mubarak Al Junaibi, director of Protocols and Hospitality in the Media and Public Relations Department at Sharjah Police said: “These field visits to the Sharjah Archaeology Museum and Sharjah Science Museum aim to familiarise participants with the history through the artefacts and antiques on display at the museums. Such initiatives are part of our efforts to enhance positive communication and interaction between the Sharjah Police and the Sharjah Museums Department, which provides quality educational programmes that help spread awareness about the history of the UAE, in general, and the Emirate of Sharjah, in particular.” The main aim of the course is to build communication between the police and the public, particularly the youth, and to diminish fear of police in the youth by creating a greater sense of familiarity. And according to Lt Al Junaibi, the programme is bearing fruit, with a number of previous course attendees having gone to become current members of the Sharjah Police. “This year, the Sharjah Police have been particularly keen to work together with the Sharjah Museums Department to organise field visits, all as part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the UAE’s National Day. Committees have been formed to organise activities to mark this important National Day,” Lt Al Junaibi added. Speaking about the activities, Al Junaibi said, “Activities include training workshops on order and discipline, military training, small arms and shooting, as well as fitness classes, and educational and awareness sessions on a variety of topics, including electricity, trade, tourism, causes of traffic accidents, drugs and the potential harm. The visit to the Sharjah Science Museum will help them improve scientific experiences in various fields through the diverse artefacts and objects on display. From / Gulf Today
