Nairobi - UPI
Striking post-secondary schoolteachers in Kenya were threatened with mass firings and replacement by new graduates and retired teachers, the government said. The ultimatum came after the Kenya National Union of Teachers rejected a pay offer as a "mockery" Wednesday and continued a three-week strike during which it has demanded a wage increase of 100 to 300 percent, with the government offering 4 percent, the BBC reported Friday. The Kenyan Cabinet responded by saying it would hire 100,000 newly graduated teachers and retired teachers to replace the strikers.
