Yola - XINHUA
Nigerian Police Force (NPF) high command has placed its officers on red alert at all schools and sensitive areas across northeast Adamawa State following a threat by Boko Haram insurgents to attack schools. State police spokesperson Mohammad Ibrahim on Wednesday told Xinhua in Yola, the state capital, that the measures were taken by police to protect schools in the state. "Apart from the deployment of personnel, we have intensified other security measures we feel are necessary to improve securities in schools," he added. Some 46 students were massacred in Mubi town of Adamawa state by suspected Boko Harm members in October 2012. Last week, neighboring Yobe State announced the relocation of Government Secondary School, Mamudo, where more than 20 students and a teacher were killed last week in an attack by gunmen. State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam also ordered that all secondary schools be closed as from July 8 until the start of a new academic term in September. Three northeast states of Yobe, Adamawa and Borno hit by the insurgency are currently under a state of emergency imposed by Nigeria President Goodluck Joanthan.
