The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Manpower Ministry, in partnership with the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, will tomorrow host a regional meeting of Technical and Vocational Education and Training Experts, organized ahead of the Third International Congress on Technical and Vocational Education and Training to be held in Shanghai, China next May under the theme of "Building Skills for Work and Life". The three-day meeting aims to review the latest developments regarding technical and vocational education in the Arab World, the achievements made, the current and future challenges facing them in a bid to develop a strategic vision for the future of technical education and vocational training in the Arab world, Arab countries' recommendations to the international congress and the broad guidelines to a more effective regional strategy in this regard. The meeting discusses six main themes on the achievements stage from 1999 to 2011, building skills to work and life, challenges of development , the role of enhancing skills, enhancing the role and vocational training and education as a tool for developing skills, employment of youths in the Arab region, the relationship between technical and vocational education and training with the economic and sustainable development, the theme of the third international conference on vocational and technical education and training (2010-2015) and the development of skills in the Arab world. The meeting will include workshops on education reforms, technical and vocational training, the achievements, challenges and priorities. Experts from Oman, 14 other Arab countries, experts from international and regional organizations, such as UNESCO, ISESCO, and representatives from the Islamic Bank for Development and the European Training Commission, will take part in the event.
