Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, head of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, says the public wants more accountability from schools and teachers. The conference issued a statement Tuesday on the Chicago teachers strike, CNN reported. "The Conference of Mayors unanimously supports student growth over time as a measurement in teachers," Villaraigosa said. "That should be at least one of the elements of their evaluation, and if you ask mayors across the country, they will agree." Speaking to reporters, Villaraigosa said New York and Los Angeles, like Chicago, are dealing with the issue. "These aren't radical notions, and my hope is the parties will sit down and figure it out. The public wants to see more accountability," he said.
