Qatar - Arabstoday
Texas A&M University at Qatar’s petroleum engineering student Sara al-Said has received the Aggie Ambassador of the Year award. TAMUQ events manager and Aggie ambassador programme head Carol Nader said: “Sara al-Said won the Aggie Ambassador of the Year award because she is the embodiment of Texas A&M’s tradition of academic and personal excellence. She is a role model for all Aggie Ambassadors.” The Aggie Ambassador programme, organised by the TAMUQ office of Marketing, Communications and Events, encourages students to represent the university by guiding tours for visitors. Tours are tailored to meet the specific interests of prospective students, faculty and staff, industry guests and the Qatar community. An Aggie Ambassador must be knowledgeable about the traditions, values and customs of both TAMUQ and Texas A&M University in College Station. “When choosing an Aggie Ambassador, I look for students who represent the Texas A&M values and traditions and take pride in the history of the university and its accomplishments,” Nader said, adding: “The most rewarding aspect for Aggie ambassadors is that they become informed and enthusiastic representatives of the university while interacting with a range of people, from official dignitaries to prospective students. This prepares them to assume leadership roles in other areas.” Commenting on her award, al-Said said: “I became an Aggie Ambassador because I wanted to show the Qatari Aggie spirit and represent my university and country. My favourite part of the Aggie Ambassador programme is showing guests that although we are an engineering school, we also have an amazing community and many extracurricular activities.”
