US telecoms regulator approves net neutrality rules

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted Thursday to regulate the internet as a public utility, preventing internet providers from charging some websites for faster service or slowing or blocking others.
"The action we take today is an irrefutable reflection that no one, government or corporate, should control free open access to the internet," FCC chairman Tom Wheeler said in remarks before the vote.
"The internet is simply too important to allow broadband providers to be the ones making the rules."
