Cairo - Akram Ali
Any speech from Israeli officials on freedom or democracy is "absurd", according to the Egyptian Press Syndicate. The Egyptian Press Syndicate has claimed that the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "the last person entitled to speak about harassment of journalists". Egypt’s Press Syndicate refused the Israeli Prime Minister to intervene in its members’ affairs. The Foreign Relations Committee of the Syndicate said in a statement: “The fact that Israel has violated journalists’ rights to move and work without restriction, that it has targeted them in cold blood, that it has sued and jailed them for political reasons makes any speech of Israeli officials on freedom or democracy absurd." The statement added that Maariv newspaper said that the Israeli Prime Minister filed a complaint to officials in the European Union in which he says that Morsi is intransigent with Egyptian press. “This is an unacceptable interference in an Egyptian matter. Any Egyptian journalist would be ashamed to have Netanyahu talking about them. He proclaimed himself barrister for Egyptian journalists in the European Union.” Netanyahu said in a letter, sent to the European Union: "President Morsi jails the journalists, prosecutes them, directs the media according to his wishes and tightens his grip on it. This raises concern for the future of freedom and democracy in Egypt."
