Moscow - UPI

Russian media could be fined for printing or broadcasting foul language under a bill approved by the lower house of parliament, officials say. The bill would assess fines of as much as $6,400, even for swear words left in readers' comments on websites, RIA Novosti reported Friday. Bill co-author Sergei Zheleznyak said laws currently regulate language in public places and the media can be viewed as a public place. The bill would need to be passed by the Federation Council and signed by the president before becoming law.
