Russia's Far East island of Sakhalin has gained the most media exposure of 82 Russian regions in foreign English media over the past two years, Far East Russian website Primorsky Media reported Wednesday. According to an investigation by Intention Survey and Dow Jones Company, Sakhalin ranked first for exposure frequency and the most positive comments, as Sakhalin 1 and Sakhalin 2 oil and gas international projects were most frequently quoted in foreign media. Tomsk in the Siberian region ranked second in the list of foreign media exposure in 2013, with Kurgan in the Ural federal district ranked last for the least exposure. The Sakhalin region has the fourth largest oil reserves in Russia, with main consumers coming from Asia-Pacific countries including Japan, China, South Korea, and the United States. Foreign media paid the most attention to the oil and gas industry and football games in Russia, according to the investigation.
