Information Affairs Authority (IAA) President Ali Mohammed Al Rumaihi underlined the great responsibility of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) media in protecting the national security of the member countries, fostering their political and social stability and preserving their cultural and civilisational identity.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al Rumaihi emphasised the key role played by the GCC media in boosting unity and achievements and facing internal and external challenges. He urged the GCC media and users of the social communication networks to assume their national and moral responsibilities in adhering to honesty and credibility, promoting tolerance and cooperation among the GCC nationals as well as renouncing rumours and the rhetoric inciting hostility, hatred and division.
He hailed the outcome of the extraordinary Summit of Riyadh and its success in opening a new chapter of GCC cooperation in order to achieve a strong union thanks to the wisdom of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the diplomatic efforts of Kuwaiti Amir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah.
The IAA President described the political, economic, social and media achievements brought about by the GCC countries thanks to the wisdom of their leaders as a source of pride for the people, urging the media to work on protecting and building on those hard-won accomplishments. He also expressed hope the GCC Summit in Doha next month will come up with resolutions that further bolster GCC cooperation and press ahead with the Gulf union.
