A Turkish prosecutor is seeking life imprisonment in the case of author and sociologist Pinar Selek, who has been tried several times for her alleged involvement in a 1998 bombing in Istanbul, the Dogan news agency reported Friday, dpa reported.
Last year, a Turkish court convicted Selek for the blast in the Istanbul market that killed seven people and issued a warrant for her arrest, despite her having been acquitted on three previous occasions.
But in June, a high court overturned the guilty verdict.
Selek has always denied any involvement in the blast at the historic Spice Bazaar.
The cause of the fatal explosion remains unknown and there is no agreed-upon expert report saying that it was caused by a bomb. There are some indications it may have been caused by a gas leak.
Selek - currently living in exile in France - is known for her academic work on vulnerable communities in her native Turkey including transsexuals, the homeless and sex workers.
