Tokyo - MENA

Japan took up the indictment of a Japanese reporter accused of slandering the South Korean president in talks with South Korea on Thursday, calling the action "extremely regrettable," the Kyodo News reported.
Japan also lodged a protest over military drills South Korea held near a couple of Japanese-claimed islets in the Sea of Japan during a meeting between senior officials of the two countries that was meant to address the issue of compensation for Korean women who were coerced to work in wartime brothels for the Japanese military.
Japan's delegation was led by Junichi Ihara, head of the Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, and South Korea's side was headed by Lee Sang Deok, director general of the Foreign Ministry's Northeast Asian Affairs Bureau.
