India and the United States will carry out cooperation in safeguarding cyberspace security and stopping crimes in IT-linked fields, said local media Sunday. India suggested setting up of a portal jointly with the United States to check cyber crimes such as hacking and misuse of social media platforms during a conference of police chiefs of India and the United States held here recently. Top American police officers responded positively to it, said Press Trust of India. India has suffered from rumor mongering on social media and fraud in electronic financial transactions, said the report. The United States offered help to check rumor spreading via social media after a massive exodus of work force of the northeastern Indian states from other Indian states was triggered by social media rumors on imminent terrorist attacks last year.
