
Former NBC News anchor and foreign correspondent Garrick Utley has died of prostate cancer at his New York home, his wife, Gertje, said Friday. The Chicago native and U.S. Army veteran was 74. The New York Times said he was fluent in Russian, German and French, and reported from about 75 countries during his storied career, which included 30 years at NBC. He later worked for ABC News and CNN, and served as the host of the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts on PBS. He is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, as well as his brothers Jonathan and David, the Times said.
