For the fifth time, the European Union's delegation to Egypt will organise a photography competition aiming to shed light on young amateur photographers in Egypt. This year's theme is 'Women of New Egypt', in recognition to the great role played by women in the country's new era. According to the delegation's official press release, "Contestants are cordially invited to express their visions via photography about women of new Egypt. Participants are asked to explore the missions, values, roles, challenges and achievements of Egyptian women in the era of New Egypt following the 2011 revolution." The delegation is looking for photographs that would capture "significant moments, events, figures, but also of common women as they experienced and/or contributed to the 25th of January revolution." The jury will be composed of several prominent figures and experts. The first winner will be awarded a prize of 1000 euro, the second winner will be awarded an SLR Digital Camera and the third winner will be awarded the 'Mohamed Hassan prize' -for the best journalistic picture- which is an SLR Digital Camera. Deadline for submissions is on Friday, 26 October 2012. (ahram)
