Metin Turan of Turkish state news network TRT is being held in a prison northwest of Cairo, Turkey’s Chargé d’Affaires Hasip Kaya has said. “Turan is held in Vadi Natrun Prison. The investigation that Egyptian authorities opened about him is ongoing,” Kaya told the AA correspondent in Cairo. Kaya said they held a one hour meeting with Turan in the prison, during which they informed him of the current legal process for his release. Turan looked “fine and well,” he said. “We brought clothing and food items to him. He doesn’t have any complaints. He says prison officials treat him well.” Metin Turan had been detained last week during a violent police intervention in Cairo’s Ramses Square to disperse an anti-coup sit-in. He was among the protesters trapped in a mosque that was besieged by security forces. “The investigation is expected to end this week,” Kaya said. “We are hopeful of a positive outcome as soon as possible.”
