A new Mediterranean network of local and regional authorities working for integrated and sustainable waste and resource management is to be launched at the closing conference of the project for optimised management of waste in the Mediterranean (GODEM), implemented in the framework of the EU-funded programme CIUDAD, to be held in Mahdia, Tunisia on 13 and 14 November 2012. According to the Enpi website (www.enpi-info.eu), the ACR+ Med network of local and regional authorities for an Integrated and Sustainable Waste and Resource Management in the Mediterranean area (ISWRM) is one of the main objectives and results of the GODEM project. It will be open to local and regional authorities (LRAs) as well as other stakeholders, such as businesses, academia, NGOs and CBOs, financing institutions, technology and service providers related to waste management and international agencies in the geographical area determined by the Union for the Mediterranean. The ACR+MED network seeks to become a catalyst to foster multi-stakeholder networking in the field of waste management services at local and regional level. ACR+ MED aims at taking into account the specificities of the region and at increasing expertise through the exchange of experiences between cities and regions from Mediterranean countries and from Europe. The GODEM project is implemented in Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia.
