Center advises man to apologize over Daesh accusations on social media
Riyadh - Arab Today

A center for legal counselling has forced a man to extend his apologies to a woman after accusing her of embracing Daesh ideology on Twitter.
The legal adviser at the counselling center, Khalid bin Hadoub Al-Muhaidib, said that the dispute between the man and woman erupted following their exchange of different point of views on an issue not related to takfirist thought.
“The woman contacted the center seeking to sue the man for his accusation,” added Al-Muhaidib, explaining that he suggested to her that she solve the dispute amicably and go to court only if the other partly failed to apologize, because this crime is listed under the Anti-Cyber Crime law. “After communicating with him, the man apologized and the case was solved,” he pointed out.
“In accordance with Article 3 of the Anti-Cyber Crime Law, any person who commits any of the following crimes, including defamation of others and inflicting harm on them using any information technology platform shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than one year, or shall receive a fine of not more than SR 500,000,” said the legal adviser.
He noted that the body of jurisdiction to file a lawsuit against individuals or parties is the Bureau for Investigation and Public Prosecution. He explained that the crimes listed under the Anti-Cyber Crime Law are not included in the publication systems supervised and controlled by a special committee at the Ministry of Culture and Information.
He added that the responsibility rests on the shoulders of the family and the mosques, in addition to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and Information in particular, to educate the community on the proper use of smart devices and social media applications, and the benefits of social media in disseminating and receiving information and cultural and entertainment without abusing people or entities.
