Our regular German spy photographer's American cousin, twice removed, caught the new Ford Mustang out and about for the very first time. As you can see, this mule of the next-generation pony car struts most of its bodywork out in the open, but that’s because the 2015 Mustang’s front fascia and rear end are the only exterior portions of the next-gen car on this prototype, hence the heavy camouflage hiding a lower, curvier and smaller frontal area. That will be good on your pocket at the pumps, and on the highway at top whack. Ford’s designers have moved the headlights further out into the corners, freeing up more space for a bigger Mustang grille. Power is always the key topic of conversation when it comes to Mustangs, and the 2015 car will feature a range of Ecoboost options, starting with a turbocharged four-cylinder, and moving up to a V6, but it’s anybody’s guess right now. What’s sure to stay in place, is good old Yank V8 muscle, as the American spy earlier spotted a 5.0-litre V8 engine in the bay of a different test mule — this engine currently produces between 420bhp and 444bhp in the 302 Boss.
