Tropical Storm Nadine forms in Atlantic

Tropical Storm Nadine formed over the Atlantic Ocean late Tuesday but was not threatening land, forecasters said. Nadine was about 1,080 miles east of the Lesser Antilles with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 11 p.m. AST advisory. Tropical storm-force winds extended 35 miles from the center of the storm, which was moving west-northwest at 15 mph. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect. Nadine was expected to resume a northwest motion Wednesday and maintain that direction for the next couple of days. The storm was expected to strengthen over the next 48 hours, possibly becoming a hurricane by Thursday, the hurricane center said.
