
Supreme Energy Council held a meeting for the first time since new administration took office in August 2013. The meeting, presided over by the first vice president, took place on the verge of enforcement of the second phase of targeting subsidies law. Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian attended the meeting. Enhancing coordination between the Oil and Energy ministries and other related bodies in energy sector is the main topic on the agenda, the oil ministry's website said. Supreme Energy Council is in charge of planning in energy sector of the country which includes not only fossil fuels but also renewable energies and energy efficiency. Deputy Oil Minister for planning and supervision on hydrocarbon resources Mansour Moazzami said earlier that the Oil Ministry backed a single-price approach towards gasoline and other oil products for next Iranian calendar year beginning March 21 2014. Speaking to Shana, Moazzami said Petroleum Ministry would put into force any decision be taken by the government pertaining to energy carrier prices. Currently Iranian motorists pay different prices for various grades of gasoline which include respectively 4.000 and 5.000 rials for rationed regular and premium gasoline, and 7.000 and 8.000 rials for extra gasoline they may use.
