South Korean manufacturers trail US, Japanese rivals in energy efficiency

South Korean manufacturers trail rivals in the United States and Japan in the efficient use of energy, spelling trouble for their overall competitiveness, a report by a trade organization said Sunday.
The findings, based on analysis of such factors as overall unit production cost and the effect energy use has on pushing up prices of finished products, showed local firms were less efficient compared to companies in the two other countries, the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) said.
