Iran’s power plants have used 21 billion liters of liquid fuel so far this year, up by 4 billion liters against the similar period last year, Managing director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Mostafa Kashkouli said. Kashkouli said while ten years ago liquid fuel made up just 17 percent of power plants fuel consumption, the figure has reached 48 percent this year. He further said that daily liquid fuel consumption stands at 135 million liters now, 95 million liters of which come from daily activities of oil refineries and the remaining from stockpiles. “Among the liquid fuels, gasoil consumption has grown the most that has gone up by 58 percent. In spite of this, fuel storage level has remained the same as last year’, Kashkouli noted, adding “rising natural gas consumption by household and commercial sectors has reduced the share of natural gas in meeting fuel consumption of power plants to 7 percent”, NIOPDC’s head said. Kashkouli further noted that 285 million liters of various oil products including gasoline, kerosene, fuel oil, jet fuel and LPG are being distributed across the country on a daily basis which requires a comprehensive planning. According to the official, average daily gasoline consumption stands at 68 million liters per day now, implying 7.6 percent growth against corresponding period last year.
