Over 13,000 houses in southern Japan left without power

Over 13,200 houses in southern part of Japan were left without electricity after Danas typhoon struck the country, bringing heavy downpour and floods, local media reported. Japan Meteorological Agency issued a storm warning for Kyushu and Shikoku islands. Precipitation in affected areas measure at 60 millimeters per hour. Railway and airline service is unavailable. Over 130 commercial flights across Japan have been cancelled at this point of time. Wind speed in the heart of the typhoon is estimated to be 35 meters per second with wind gusts reaching 50 meters per second. Wave heights in the typhoon area reaches 9 meters. Currently Danas is west of the Kyushu island is moving north-east, to the Sea of Japan. Japan Meteorological Agency warned of possible floods and landslides in mountainous regions of the country and urged citizens to only leave home in case of emergencies. Typhoon Danas is the 24th tropical storm to form in the Pacific Ocean this season. Its name comes from the language of Philippine aboriginals, meaning “to feel”.
