Kuwait's power grid is strong and can stand emergencies thanks to its high-efficiency system, said Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity and Water Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim.
He made the statement on Sunday after opening Az-Zour North power transformer station.
This is one of the biggest such stations in the country, designed to receive electricity from the Az-Zour North Power Plant later this year.
The newly-opened station will start receiving 230 megawatt of electricity by the end of July, as a first phase, to be gradually raised to 1,500 megawatt, Al-Ibrahim said.
Costs of the station, which comprises four 750-megawatt transformers, hit KD 44 million, he noted.
Meanwhile, Minister Al-Ibrahim said a file on the negligence regarding the huge power cutoff in February was referred to the prosecution.
Negligence was depicted in maintaining 400 kilovolt networks, he said, adding that the file was also submitted to the Cabinet and the National Assembly.
