A nuclear plant in the western Indian state of Rajasthan has made history by running continuously for two years, local media reported Saturday.
Most nuclear plants need to shut down once in a year for maintenance.
But this indigenous nuclear plant in Rajasthan, with a 220 MW reactor, has broken the record of an American unit which ran for 739 days at a stretch, the report said.
The reactor generated 4,258 million units of electricity during this period.
"The achievement of Rajasthan's Unit-5 is another excellent example of how nuclear energy supplies clean, affordable and reliable electricity around the world," Agneta Rising, the head of the World Nuclear Association in London, told an Indian news channel.
