A forum on green energy technology will be held in Amman on Wednesday with the aim to enhance the usage of renewable energy and discuss the challenges posed in this regard.
The Second Green Energy Technology Exhibition and Forum, being organized by the Jordanian Renewable Energy Society (JRES) and the Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) and chaired by the Commission's president Prince Assem Bin Nayef, is set to highlight the policies, instructions and general laws related to renewable energy and the challenges that investors face in the sector.
AREC's secretary general Saleh Irshaidat said that the participants in the two-day event will also discuss the role of the renewable energy in promoting sustainable development and ways to secure funding for projects in the sector.
Irshidat highlighted the importance of the gathering in attracting investments to Jordan, which imports 97 percent of its energy needs, accounting for expenditure equivalent to 20 percent of the Kingdom's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
"Energy in Jordan is a matter of national security," Irshidat said, adding that the energy bill consumes up to 50 percent of the state budget. In this regard, he noted that the daily energy cost reaches up to JD13 million, while health and education costs hit JD4 million daily.
Participants in the forum will include Jordanian decision-makers, representatives of the legislative authority, civil society organizations, Arab and foreign experts involved in the renewable energy sector, as well as studies and scientific research centers and owners of industries and companies operating in the sector.
