Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri said Monday that the energy sector of Albania will undergo radical reforms. "The energy sector risks degradation unless reforms are undertaken," Gjiknuri said at an economic forum held in Tirana with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The reforms should start this year, otherwise the energy sector will find itself in a difficult situation, said Gjiknuri. Concerning the postponed drafting of a new state law on renewable energy, Gjiknuri said that law is flawed and needs to be reviewed. He added the law is expected to liberalize the energy market and change the market model.
