Stock losses on Wall Street mounted to more than 3.0 percent at midday Wednesday driven in part by another plunge in crude oil prices.
At 1215 pm (1715 GMT) the S&P 500 was down 3.1 percent at 1,823.90, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 2.9 percent at 15,546.78.
