US stocks surge to new records; Dow +0.6 percent

Wall Street stocks jumped to fresh records Thursday, with all three major indices hitting all-time highs due to strong gains in petroleum-linked shares and retailers.
At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 18,612.32, up 0.6 percent. The broad-based S&P 500 rose 0.5 percent to 2,185.75, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.5 percent to 5,228.40.
