US stocks fell about 1.4 percent in opening trade Wednesday, joining a rout in Asia and Europe prompted by sliding oil prices and worries about a weakening global economy. About five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index were down 1.4 percent, while the S&P 500 dropped 1.3 percent. |
