India plans to double farmers' income by 2022

India's finance minister Monday outlined plans to double the income of struggling farmers in the next five years, by spending 359 billion rupees ($5.2 billion) on the country's vast agriculture sector.
"We are grateful to our farmers for being the backbone of the country's food security," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said of India's estimated 120 million farmers as he presented the annual budget.
