Sri Lanka's ruling United National Party won a general election on Tuesday, securing 106 seats in the 225-member parliament, official results showed.
Former strongman Mahinda Rajapakse's United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) won 95 seats, while the Tamil National Alliance emerged as the third largest party with 16 seats.
