President Barack Obama tackled the use of the confederate flag head-on Friday, saying it was not just an emblem of heritage, but of racist subjugation.
Eulogizing a slain black pastor, Obama said "the flag has always represented more than just ancestral pride... for many, black and white, that flag was a reminder of systemic oppression and racist subjugation. We see that now."
