Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made a symbolic visit to Washington's World War II memorial Wednesday, hoping to assuage stinging criticism about his stance on Japan's brutal past ahead of a landmark speech to Congress.
Abe is expected to lay a wreath at the monument on Washington's National Mall that honors hundreds of thousands of Americans who died during the conflict, many at the hands of Japanese forces.
